Winter School in Science and Technology Studies (STS)
Organized by STS India Network
IIT Delhi, Sonepat campus, Delhi NCR, 12-14 December 2025
We invite applications for an intensive Winter School in Science and Technology Studies (STS) organized by the STS-IN collective, with a specific focus on examining the historical, social, and cultural dimensions of science and technology in India. It aims to bring together graduate students, early career researchers, and scholars from diverse disciplinary backgrounds to engage with cutting-edge scholarship, methodological approaches, and critical debates within STS, all within the context of India's unique socio-technical landscape.
About the Winter School:
This Winter School offers a unique opportunity to:

- Engage with Key Themes: Explore critical themes in STS, including but not limited to: the history of science in India, postcolonial technoscience, the politics of development, digital cultures, environmentalism, healthcare technologies, agriculture, and the intersections of caste, gender, and technology.

- Learn from Leading Scholars: Participate in lectures, seminars, and workshops led by prominent international and Indian scholars in the field of STS.

- Develop Methodological Skills: Gain hands-on training in interdisciplinary approaches relevant to STS research.

- Network and Collaborate: Connect with a vibrant community of peers, scholars, and practitioners working on STS-related issues in India.

- Participate in the first STS-IN conference to be held immediately after the Winter School with around 100 papers and several panels and plenary sessions
Eligibility:
The Winter School is open to:

- Students (ongoing PhDs) working on STS across various disciplines
-
- Early career researchers (within five years of completing their PhD).

- Practitioners with work that spans concerns related to STS
Application Requirements:
To apply, please submit the following materials:

- Curriculum Vitae (CV): Include your academic background, research experience, publications (if any), and any relevant professional experience.

- Statement of Interest (500 words): Describe your research interests, and how the workshop may contribute to your academic and/or professional development.

Location:

Fees, Funding, and Accommodation:
INR 2000 for students and those with precarious employment
INR 3500 for ECRs and practitioners with regular jobs
The fee covers accommodation, meals, and any course related material
