Bibliography

Curated starting points for STS research in and on South Asia.

Welcome to the STS-IN bibliography of research publications relevant to STS in South Asia managed by the STS India Network. It is a work in progress designed for teachers, students, researchers, and reading groups.

Bibliography use cases

Start a literature review
Build a syllabus
Prepare a reading group
Map a topic field

The limits are explicit: the bibliography currently represents only a fraction of the estimated literature and is meant to improve through collective use and correction.

Dear Scholars

STS research in South Asia has a long history stretching back at least to the early twentieth century. This project exists to make more of that literature visible, searchable, and reusable in one shared route.

The bibliography is hosted on Zotero so readers can search, organize, and download entries according to their own research and teaching needs. Creating a Zotero account will give you the most useful detailed view of the collection.

Project status

Work in progress

The bibliography is ongoing and cannot yet claim complete coverage.

Estimated coverage

The current collection represents less than 25% of the estimated literature.

How to help

If a publication is missing, suggest it through the public form or email the bibliography team.

Curation criteria

What belongs in the bibliography.

1

Works that engage with STS theories, concepts, and methods.

2

Works that directly engage South Asian contexts and debates.

Inclusion is based on relevance to STS in South Asia rather than on author origin alone. A scholar is included only when the work is materially relevant to STS in South Asia.

Stewardship notes

Ongoing project

The bibliography is intentionally open-ended and will keep growing through collective use and correction.

Scope discipline

Selection is based on relevance to STS in South Asia rather than on author origin or generic regional coverage.

The bibliography is meant for literature reviews, syllabi, reading groups, and topic mapping.
